Think Yourself to Success

Thursday, June 2nd, 2011

When was the last time you read The Magic of Thinking Big?  It has so many great reminders, including the importance of taking time alone “with nothing but your own thinking apparatus.”  It’s so easy to get caught up in the “doing” of our business that we neglect the soul of our business – much like the parent making a living to provide for her family, only to find out what they really need is more of her time.  Likewise, your business needs that one-on-one nourishment – thinking time – that only you can provide.

“Leaders use solitude to put the pieces of a problem together, to work out solutions, to plan, and… do their superthinking.” ~ David Schwartz

Here’s to spending more time ON your business, instead of in it!  Test it for yourself.  (I’ll be doing the same.) Set aside 30-60 minutes each day for two weeks to just think …and let me know what happens!  I’d like to hear from you.

If You Want to Double Your Income…

Saturday, November 20th, 2010

Yesterday while I waited for AAA to replace my battery (stranded in a parking lot in the middle of running an errand!), I sat listening to a Vic Johnson* audio that I downloaded to my phone.  Vic asked a question that struck me:

What is the difference between someone who earns $10,000 a month and the person who earns $25,000 a month?

I stopped the recording and pulled out a pen and paper.  Some of the items on my list were:

  • They delegate more.
  • Their desk is clear.
  • They take more quiet time to think, plan, and dream.
  • They exercise regularly to support their health.

Obviously, those are things I need to take time to do – right now!  I challenge you to ask yourself the same question and make your own list.  Of course, if you earn $2000 or $20,000 right now, change the numbers accordingly, e.g.:

What is the difference between someone who earns $2,000 a month and the person who earns $5,000 a month?
What is the difference between someone who earns $20,000 a month and the person who earns $50,000 a month?

* Btw, if you don’t know who Vic Johnson is, I recommend signing up for his free book offer for Think and Grow Rich. If you haven’t read it, you need to!  It’s a classic that has been recommended by motivational greats like Jim Rohn and Bob Proctor.  Even if you already own the book, it’s worth signing up just to get on this e-mail list.  I really respect this guy.

Okay, take out your pen and paper and answer the “What is the difference between …” question!  It might just give you some answers that cause your income to double.

Cheers,

Provocations and Destiny

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

The following is a delightful excerpt from Warrior of the Light, by Paulo Coelho.

The Warrior of the Light… Knows what he is capable of; he does not have to go about the world boasting of his qualities and virtues. Nevertheless, there is always someone who wants to prove himself better than he is.

… Certain people insist. They provoke and offended do everything they can to irritate him. At that point, his heart says: “do not respond to these insults, they will not increase your abilities. You will tire yourself needlessly.”

A Warrior of the Light does not waste his time listening to provocations; he has a destiny to fulfill.

Warrior of the Light is a great little book, and easy read: short notes on accepting failure, embracing life, and rising through destiny.

Have a great week!

The Power of Negative Thinking

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Yes, you read it right!  I just read this incredible book:  Illuminate – Harnessing the Positive Power of Negative Thinking.  It was a quick read, parable style, and very (ahem) illuminating!  The brief formula is…

  1. Face it
  2. Follow it
  3. Fix it

…. but to tell you that doesn’t do justice to the formula.  There are some details, some clarification behind each step.  For example, “Face it” talks about acknowledging there is a problem: You can’t fix a problem until you acknowledge that it exists.  The real treasure in the book, for me, was the part about  “Follow it.”

The tag line, by the way, was “Boost profits, productivity, and morale.”  This book is good for business, AND good for your personal life.

Cheers!

Antidote to Failure

Sunday, June 27th, 2010

It’s been said you can learn from anyone – even the failures.  Find out what they are doing and DON’T do it!

Did you know that Napoleon Hill (author of the classic book – Think and Grow Rich – reread annually by countless millionaires) didn’t just study the successful people?  He also studied 25,000 failures.  What did the failures have in common?  Lack of Decision and Lack of Action.

Even making the decision to decide on something TODAY that you’ve been waffling on is a start.
Then take the first step; take Action.

btw, I recommend Think and Grow Rich!: The Original Version, Restored and Revised.  The annotations and End Notes are fascinating, providing background and insight to events of the day to those of us who did not grow up in Hill’s era.

Namaste

Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion

Monday, May 31st, 2010

Hello business owners — and those of you interested in starting your own business

I’ve just read an incredible book by Gary Vaynerchuk, known for his Wine Library TV, a series of online videos about – you guessed it!  – his passion, wine.  If your business is your passion, and you haven’t been cashing in on it, making the kind of money you had hoped for, how can you change that?  If you’re in the business that doesn’t excite you, why not start one that does?

Gary states clearly that this is not an overnight exercise.  He does  promise – given some time, passion and effort – that you can crush the market.  His book is chock-full of suggestions, ideas, and resources.  And it’s an easy read. Winston Churchill said, “History will be kind to me for I intend to write it.”  Crush It!: Why NOW Is the Time to Cash In on Your Passion is all about writing your own history.

Happy reading!
